Event Details

Spend 45 minutes online with Michael Eather, the Director of FireWorks Gallery, a commercial enterprise known for exhibiting and promoting artworks by some of Australia’s best contemporary artists. This online consultation is an opportunity to discuss and receive professional feedback on your artworks and art practice.

Michael’s commitment to presenting the works of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists side by side has left a lasting impact on the Australian art scene. Through mentorship, artistic vision, and his gallery/studio programs, Michael continues to cultivate and expand his network in the art community.

Michael Eather has an extensive history of multidisciplinary art practice, curating and consulting across contemporary Indigenous and non-Indigenous art forms and issues. He has a particular passion and interest in:

  • Attitudes towards art making.
  • Analysing/understanding the intersection between art practice/theory and audience
    perception.
  • Understanding the commercial art space.

Additional Information

Your  facilitator: Michael Eather was born and educated in Tasmania completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Sculpture Major) Visual Arts Teaching at Tasmanian School of Art/University of Tasmania in 1983. Since 1985 he has continued to work as a multidisciplinary artist as well as a gallerist, project curator and consultant with extensive experiences across contemporary Indigenous art forms and issues. In 1990 he co-founded Campfire Group Projects aligned with collaboration and cross-cultural initiatives. Between 2001-2004 he curated two major survey exhibitions of Australian Indigenous art and education programs in Museums in Austria generating widespread national and international interest. He remains a practising artist (Ghost Ship Studio) whilst also Director of FireWorks Gallery established in 1993 and located in Bowen Hills Brisbane.
