Event Details

Create a five-year plan for your career (or multiple careers) and set the targets and milestones you want to reach. Having a realistic plan can greatly assist you to navigate the challenges and obstacles you face working within the arts industry and set you on the path to long-term success.

You will:

– Gain control over your narrative; increase your confidence
– Develop your emotional tools and business skills
– Achieve clarity and perspective about your career direction
– Renew your sense of purpose, drive and optimism

This workshop for artists, artsworkers, arts educators and creatives will ask you to be daring and dream big. Under the guidance of arts professional Heather Fairbairn, analyse and assess the state of your career/s, refine the essence of its narrative, and draft a realistic five-year plan with key milestones.

Participants to Bring:

– Laptop or pen and paper for note-taking, if desired
– Lunch or snacks – there are several food establishments within walking distance of the venue if preferred

Facilitator

Heather Fairbairn is an arts worker with a background in arts management, having held positions with the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, The Song Room, and Access Arts QLD. She is also is a British-Australian stage director, working across theatre and opera.

 

Having successfully forged a sustainable freelance arts practice, Heather has collaborated with companies including La Boite Theatre Company, Opera Queensland, Sydney Theatre Company, Arcola Theatre, Schaubühne Berlin, Royal Court Theatre, Royal Opera House (Covent Garden), Finnish National Opera, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Her work has toured Europe to Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, and Portugal.

 

Heather holds a Master of Fine Arts (Directing) from the National Institute of Dramatic Art, a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Drama & Creative Writing) from the University of Queensland, and a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre Performance) from the BRIT School for Performing Arts, London. She regularly lectures at the University of Queensland and on the NIDA post-graduate directing course.
