Co-presented by Deb Clark from the Mackay Aboriginal Language Group and Artspace Mackay, this webinar explores two best practice case studies of educational community projects that connected art with the Mackay Region First Nations Yuwibara language. It provides educators and artsworkers with inspiration for developing creative programs and projects that integrate art and language.

The presenters highlight the practical, collaborative strategies they used to plan and develop their creative language projects, sharing their successes, challenges and ideas for further development. This webinar equips you with ways to begin the conversation in your own community, and tools to develop projects that have long-term, enduring outcomes.

You will:

– Take away ideas for developing creative programs and projects that integrate art and language.
– Learn how to create meaningful connections and partnerships within the community.
– See how to inspire and engage children and adults of all ages with this theme.
– Develop an appreciation of the benefits of working collaboratively and challenges you may face.

This is the third webinar in a trilogy on Place, Kin and Language, designed to address how to connect the Arts with the cross curriculum priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures.

This event is part of a Flying Arts Mackay Hotspot of public programs that celebrate the exhibition opening of Jabu Birriny (land + sea) at Artspace Mackay. Join us in Mackay for a weekend of Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities uniting to share skills and knowledge.

Deb Clark: Ngandadyi (hello). My name is Deb Clark nee Hazeldean I proudly acknowledge both my cultural heritage’s. I am a Pitcairn Islander descendant on my father’s side and a Proud Yuibera woman (Mackay) on my mother’s side.

 

I am passionate about my community, culture and country and volunteer in several community programs and reference groups including The Mackay Aboriginal Language Group and the Elders visitation programs that offer cultural support to both our indigenous men and women incarcerated in correctional centres. I am passionate about the revival of our indigenous language through book reading, oral storytelling, song and dance, I love working with both indigenous and non-indigenous people, sharing the richness of our culture and bringing awareness to all community in the hope of bridging gaps between first nations people and the wider community.
