This course is designed for emerging visual arts curators or visual artists wanting develop new skills as a curator. Under the guidance of experienced curator, the purpose of this project is to provide emerging curators with a unique training and development opportunity which combines a sound theoretical foundation, with an opportunity to apply the principles directly into practice.

2016 Curator Development Project
Students will be introduced to the role of the curator and the principles of planning, developing and implementing exhibitions, under the guidance of experienced curator Simone Oriti. Over one weekend intensive (Saturday and Sunday) and three Saturday follow up sessions they will cover foundation principles coupled with practical components necessary to stage an exhibition as part of the course.
Final sessions will involve installing the exhibition they’ve curated, followed by a formal review and evaluation and feedback.

This project provides emerging curators with a unique training and development opportunity combining a sound theoretical foundation with an opportunity to apply the principles directly into practice. The project culminates in the staging of Flying Arts’ annual CURATORS IN SPACE exhibition at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, December 2016-January 2017.
Students will gain:
- A sound understanding of the role, processes and practices of a curator
- A sound understanding of the principles of curating an exhibition
- Practical experience as an exhibition curator
- Experience working with a professional venue
- The capacity to reflect on and evaluate a curatorial project
Students will have the knowledge and practical experience to plan, develop, promote, install and manage a curatorial project

2015 Curator Development Project
In 2015 the Curator Development Project is an alumni event. Selected past CDP students worked on an exciting exhibition with artists Fiona Rafferty and Francis Smith which celebrated the centenary of Judith Wright.
The exhibition was held in the Shopfront Gallery at the Judith Wight Centre of Contemporary Arts, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane during December 2015 and January 2016.
